About The Department

The Department of Economics and Commerce is an integral part of the School of Business and Economics of Adamas University, catering to the contemporary needs of Economics, Commerce and Business Management graduates in today’s dynamic economic and business environment. The day to day expansion of economic activity in the trade, commerce and business world is responsible for making the study in these areas more relevant and sought after.

The new age Economics & Commerce education is also constantly fine tuning itself in line with the ongoing changes happening in the trade and business world. The department strives to depart knowledge and skills which are conducive with recent developments in the global economy and society, particularly inculcating industry 4.0 skills and critical aspects of the New Education Policy (NEP). This makes the department truly multidisciplinary in nature, incorporating research based learning, benchmarking international standards, provoking outcome based education and preparing socially responsible graduates.

The department offers programs that are well versed with content related to Business Economics, Policy Analysis, Critical Thinking, Quantitative Aptitude, Professional Accounting, Management Accounting, Tax Consulting, Marketing, Investment Advising, Finance and value added courses focusing on lifelong learning. The department has a highly committed team of faculty members with vast national and international exposure to aid the development of students along with state of the art infrastructure.

The vision is to emerge as a world class center of advanced learning in Economics & Commerce through promulgating interdisciplinary and research driven approach. While dissemination of knowledge in the areas related to real life issues of Economics & Commerce and other spheres of life is in the focus, building socially responsible citizens through various community service and capacity building capsules is also interwoven throughout the programs offered.

Our Mission

  • Improve employability of our students through futuristic curriculum and progressive pedagogy through regular interaction with ‘people in practice’.
  • Adopt Interdisciplinary Approach to learning and Outcome Based Education (OBE) in developing the curricula and syllabi to ensure the goal oriented training and also measuring its attainment.

Ajitava Raychaudhuri

Head Of The Department

Department of Economics 

A Ph.D from American University (USA), Ajitava Raychaudhuri is former Professor, Head and Coordinator of Centre for Advanced Studies, Department of Economics, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India as well as former Dean (Acting), Faculty of Arts, Jadavpur University..  He also held the Chair professorship of the Planning Unit, Jadavpur University instituted by the erstwhile Planning Commission of India. He was a senior Fulbright Scholar at Economic Growth Center, Yale University, Reid Hall Scholar in Residence of Columbia University, Paris Campus as well as visitor to SOAS, University of London. He was visiting faculty at Indian Statistical Institute (Calcutta), Calcutta University and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (Calcutta). He had undertaken several important projects from UNESCAP, ADB, World Bank, UNDP, PEP, GDN, IPPG, SANEI, Finance Commission, Planning Commission etc. He has also written numerous papers in international and national journals and edited books. Among his notable books are India’s Exports: An Analytical Study (with Sugata Marjit) published by Oxford University Press, International Trade in Services in India: Implications for Growth and Inequality in a Globalising World (with Prabir De) also from Oxford University Press and Myanmar’s Integration with the World (edited with Prabir De) published as Palgrave Macmillan series by Springer. His most recent co-edited book is on World Trade and India: Multilateralism, Progress and Policy Response published by Sage Publications. He also authored two District Human Development Reports for West Bengal (with Sushil Haldar) published by UNDP and Planning Commission of India
